Tutorial

The tool is quite easy to use, and is similar to Google / Apple Maps.

  1. Enter the location that your starting from inside the first box (the one that says "Starting point").
  2. Enter the location that you will arrive at in the second box (the one that says "Destination").
  3. Enter the time at which you would be departing in the third box (the one that says "Date and time").
  4. Once you have done the above steps, click the "Calculate" button, and patiently wait as our app makes some calculations.
  5. After a while, you should see results appear above the app, those tell you the estimated time it will take based on certain speed limit changes.
  6. Use the clear button to clear the result, so you can try another route.
  7. The Heatmap allows you to see the distribution of other Calgarians who have also used this tool.

Scenarios

Scenario 1 (Unposted 30 km/h & Select Collectors Posted 40 km/h):

Roads classified as Residential Streets or Collectors and Primary Collectors with less than 5000 vehicles per day are changed to unposted 30 km/h. Roads classified as Collectors or Primary Collectors with greater than or equal to 5000 vehicles per day are changed to posted 40 km/h. All other roads would maintain their existing speed limit. Any Residential Streets, Collectors or Primary Collectors that have a current posted speed limit greater than 50 km/h would remain unchanged. Any roads that meet the criteria for unposted 30 km/h within Industrial land use areas will be posted 40 km/h.

Scenario 2 (Unposted 30 km/h & Collectors Posted 50 km/h):

Roads classified as Residential Streets are changed to unposted 30 km/h. Roads classified as Collectors or Primary Collectors are changed to posted 50 km/h. All other roads would maintain their existing speed limit. Any Residential Streets, Collectors or Primary Collectors that have a current posted speed limit greater than 50 km/h would remain unchanged. Any roads that meet the criteria for unposted 30 km/h within Industrial land use areas will be posted 50 km/h.

Scenario 3 (Residential & Collectors Unposted 40 km/h):

Roads classified as Residential Streets, Collectors or Primary Collectors are changed to unposted 40 km/h. All other roads would maintain their existing speed limit. Any Residential Streets, Collectors or Primary Collectors that have a current posted speed limit of 30 km/h or greater than 50 km/h would remain unchanged.
